Sarah has three children who have all attended Archbishop Runcie First School. Two are now at Gosforth Central Middle School and her eldest attends Gosforth Academy. She is a qualified secondary school science teacher and previously worked at a large comprehensive school in County Durham, however, a love of science led her back to a research career and she is currently a scientist at Newcastle University, building a research group that studies the genetics of mitochondrial disease.
