RSE Parental consultation
As you may be aware, schools are required by law to teach Relationships and Health Education and to have a Relationships and Health Education Policy. This forms part of our Personal, Social, and Health Education curriculum in school – to the children, this is more likely to be known as circle time, where children talk about their feelings, understand what friendship is, what family means and who they can turn to when they need help. This forms part of our mission of ensuring children ‘Learn to love, love to learn’.
Given that we are a first school, there are actually very few proposed changes from the curriculum already offered in previous years. We have previously engaged with families about our engagement with the No Outsiders project and with previous PSHE policies – texts from No Outsiders have been mapped out to link to our policy where appropriate. There will be no sex education for children of this age group. The current PSHE curriculum for each year group is put on the website for the upcoming year already and is shared each half term with parents through topic webs. The proposed curriculum has very few changes – additionally, the current Sex and Relationships Education Policy is also on our school website.
The amended, proposed curriculum has been shared on the website as part of our consultation with the wider school community, including parents, governors and staff and we welcome thoughts and suggestions as we mould our existing good practice. Thank you.
