Dr Sarah Pickett

Sarah has been a Foundation Governor for St. Nicholas’ Church since November 2013 and is vice-chair of Governors 2018-19. She also chairs the Teaching, Learning and Assessment Committee and is the link Governor for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities as well as disadvantaged pupils.

Sarah has three children: two currently at Archbishop Runcie First School and one who has moved on to Gosforth Central Middle School. She is a qualified secondary school science teacher and previously worked at a large comprehensive school in County Durham. However, a love of science led her back to a research career and she is currently a scientist at Newcastle University, building a research group that studies the genetics of mitochondrial disease. In this role, she teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate students and sits on PhD student assessment panels.
