Learning and teaching is what our school is about; the core business of the whole school. It is our wholehearted desire that we fulfill this purpose engaging children’s excitement, curiosity and wonder for the world. We are committed to delivering a vibrant, live curriculum, which is relevant to the children with whom we are working. We hope to light a spark and love for learning that will remain with each child for their lifelong learning journey.

We offer the opportunity to experience the richness and diversity of God’s creation through the curriculum we offer and as we celebrate their God-given gifts and talents. In this way they are encouraged to explore values and beliefs and to identify with, and empathise with, those of other cultures. We are firm in our belief that we have all been given different talents, gifts and abilities. God works in different ways through each of us, and we all serve him faithfully as we use our gifts to glorify him.

Our curriculum includes the requirements of the National Curriculum and is enhanced by a range of experiences for the children which make them thirsty to learn. We encourage this thirst for learning by beginning each topic with a ‘hook’ on which to hang the rest of their learning; this may be a visit or a visitor, a drama activity or an enquiry question. Most topics end with a culminating event which helps showcase the children’s learning – a presentation, performance, exhibition for example. We do not generally publicise in advance to the children what their next topic will be and thus excite their interest to find out where their learning is going next and keep the magic of learning alive.

The staff are fully aware of the required learning which must take place and after the ‘hook’ plan with the children where they would like their learning to go to ensure interest, enthusiasm and relevance. Planning Walls in each Key Stage encourage children to contribute their ideas and questions and take ownership of their learning. The review of the Planning Wall enables children to measure and celebrate the progress they are making.
